Jesus went out in the hills to pray, and spent the night praying to God. (Luke 6:12)
I meditate on You in the night watches. (Psalm 63:6)
I remember Your name in the night, OÂ Lord (Psalm 119:55)
As the worlds turn darker, followers of Jesus are wise to spend more time with Him in prayer. He alone can save. Only in Him do we find strength to face present troubles and future uncertainty. In Him alone do we find the power to becoming more like Him.
Have you spent the night with Jesus?
Did you give yourself to prayer?
All the cares of life abandoned,
Did you haste or linger there?
In the silence of the evening,
Have you heard Him call your name
To that quiet place of solace?
Did you tarry – heart aflame?
Have you wrestled long past midnight,
Undeterred to see His face?
In the stillness of the darkness
Have you found His warm embrace?
Have you heard Him whisper softly
His sweet truth your cares dispel?
Have you knelt beside His altar
‘Til He bid your fears farewell?
Have you ventured in the battle
To the place where angels trod?
With your tears so freely streaming,
Have you grasped the throne of God?
Will the dawning of the morning
Find you weary, worn, and spent?
All your cares perfumed with mercy,
Your hands tinged with Heaven’s scent?
As night shadows yield to daylight
Does your heart His image bear?
Do you more resemble Jesus
Having spent the night in prayer?
